The Direct Reading Ferrograph, DR, is the quantitative measuring instrument for a Wear Particle Analysis lab, or can be a stand alone monitor screening for abnormal wear conditions that require further analysis.  The DR bridges the gap between spectroscopy, lubricant condition monitoring and chip detection which measure particles too small to indicate abnormal wear, or so large that major component damage has already been done.  By detecting sudden increases in the concentrations of particles in the critical 1 to 250 micron size range
 

The DR is a microprocessor-based instrument that has internal diagnostics ensuring reliable functioning of the instrument.  An LCD panel allows the technician to set instrument operating parameters, test parameters, and communications protocol.
