Application Notes:

valve beat-in

is the wear on the valve face or valve seat in internal combustion engines resulting from the pounding of the valve on the seat. This is not usually a problem with leaded gasoline because the lead combustion products act as a lubricant; engines designed for unleaded gasoline have hardened valve seats. Also called valve sink or valve seat recession.
