benzene


is an aromatic hydrocarbon consisting of six carbon atoms and six hydrogen atoms arranged in a hexagonal ring structure. It is used extensively in the petrochemical industry as a chemical intermediate and reaction diluent and in some applications as a solvent. Benzene is a toxic substance, and proper safety precautions should be observed in handling it.
