Application Notes:

peroxide

is any compound containing two linked oxygen atoms (e.g., Na2O2) that yields hydrogen peroxide (H2O2) when reacted with acid; also, H2O2 itself. Relatively unstable, peroxides are strong oxidizing agents and, when present in lubricating oils, can accelerate oil oxidation and promote bearing corrosion.

Also see corrosion.
