Application Notes:

luminometer number

is the measure of the flame radiation characteristics of a turbine fuel, as determined by test method ASTM-D-1740. A sample of fuel is burned in a luminometer lamp, and the temperature rise, at a specified flame radiation value, is compared with the corresponding temperature rise of reference fuels. The higher the luminometer number, the lower the flame radiation and the better the combustion characteristics.
