bromine number


is the number of grams of bromine that react with 100 grams of a sample of a petroleum distillate, giving an indication of its relative degree of reactivity, as determined by test method ASTM-D-1159; it can be used as an indicator of the relative amount of olefins and diolefins, which are double-bonded straight-chain or cyclic hydrocarbons.
