Application Notes:

air entrainment

is the inability of turbine, hydraulic, and gear oils to release air drawn into the lubricant.  The air entrainment results in the encapsulation of the air bubble or cavitation.  Compression of these bubbles results in an implosion and the removal of material from surfaces and the generation of spheres.  Test to determine the lubricant ability to release air is ASTM-D-3427
