acute effect


is the toxic effect in mammals and aquatic life that rapidly follows exposure to a toxic substance. An acute effect is usually evident after a single oral intake, a single contact with the skin or eyes, or a single exposure to contaminated air lasting any period up to eight hours. Also known as acute toxicity.
